Reports to Government
The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) was enacted on December 16, 2014, and brought into force on June 1, 2015. The Act delivers on Canada’s international commitments to contribute to global efforts to increase transparency and deter corruption in the extractive sector by requiring extractive entities active in Canada to publicly disclose, on an annual basis, specific payments made to all governments in Canada and abroad.
Modern Slavery Act
The Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act received Royal Assent in Canada in May 2023 and became effective on January 1, 2024. The Modern Slavery Act requires companies to submit an annual report to the Minister of Public Safety on measures taken to identify, evaluate and mitigate any modern slavery practices in their supply chains. The Modern Slavery Act aligns Canada with other commonwealth jurisdictions and implements Canada’s international commitment to contribute to the fight against forced and child labour.
